The University of Missouri School of Medicine Department of Dermatology hosted its first-ever Jack & Marjorie Gunn Dermatology Lectureship Series on Friday, April 25, 2025. Spearheaded by a generous endowment from Victoria Gunn, MD, assistant professor of Dermatology, the lectureship series was named in honor of her parents, Jack and Marjorie Gunn.
The endowment supports a yearly lecture to further the Department of Dermatology’s mission to foster collaborative educational opportunities in the School of Medicine. Showcasing experts in the field, each lecture will aim to expand the body of dermatological knowledge throughout the community.

Lucinda Buescher, MD, '86 division chief of Dermatology at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, served as the inaugural keynote speaker. Dr. Buescher earned both her medical and undergraduate degrees from Mizzou, followed by a dermatology residency at the university’s Hospital & Clinics in 1990.
“Dr. Buescher presented a rich series of complex clinical cases to kick off the first-ever Jack & Marjorie Gunn Dermatology Lectureship Series,” said Jordan Parker, MD, assistant professor of Dermatology. “Her talk underscored the educational power of case-based learning and celebrated the enduring exchange of knowledge and mentorship between our closely connected residency programs.”
The Gunn family’s connection to Mizzou and the Department of Dermatology date back more than 50 years. Jack and Marjorie Gunn’s five children, including Dr. Victoria Gunn, all graduated from Mizzou.
Victoria’s grandfather, AJ Gunn, founded the Gunn Clinic, which later partnered with the Department of Dermatology. Beginning in the early 1970’s, Mizzou dermatologists would travel to Versailles, Missouri, once a month to see patients at the Gunn Clinic.

“My parents, Jack and Marjorie, were big advocates of education and learning opportunities, and would be proud to be associated with this new lectureship series,” said Dr. Victoria Gunn. “This lectureship will provide an opportunity for family, friends and colleagues to contribute to something that will benefit the Department of Dermatology for the foreseeable future. We look forward to even more experts in the field to make their way to Columbia, Missouri, and educate the Mizzou community.”
